We are a section of the DSA’s Libertarian Socialist Caucus organizing in the NYC metro region for a socialist future outside the confines of the state.

NYC-LSC covers New York City and areas of Long Island and the Hudson Valley (we have a sister NJ LSC local that you can join). Many are NYC-DSA members and are part of organizing efforts within that formation. Others work across community groups invested in projects around autonomous democracy, composting and food systems, direct action, homeless outreach and more. In short, we want to build a better world than capitalism has provided.

What We Believe In:

Freedom. Solidarity. Democracy.

Each individual in our organization has their own political understanding, theoretical background and lived practice. While “isms” aren’t the most useful measure of a political project, some that have been used to describe our collective vision include: anarchism, anarcho-communism, autonomous Marxism, council communism, democratic confederalism, left-libertarianism, social ecology and of course libertarian socialism.

At such a pivotal moment for socialism in our city, what is our role as anarchists and libertarian socialists in DSA? What work should we be doing in order to best advance our grass-roots, anti-authoritarian vision? What opportunities does our position within DSA offer?

As the largest city in the United States, NYC stands as a testament for the future of Socialism. Between the working-class power built by factions like DSA, and New York’s role as a center of real-estate speculation and the trade of capital, our city stands as a battleground upon which the age-old fight between the ideologies of Socialism and Capitalism will ensue.
